Take a journey to explore the language and culture of the indigenous and non-indigenous people who live in the South American Andes using traditional Andean music as a platform.

Be part of a fun and interactive workshop which investigate aspects of traditional Andean music, culture and language as well as learning about the handcrafted wind and string instruments used by the natives of the Andean regions.

The workshop will include:

1. An introduction to music and Celestino

2. The Inca Empire – Tawantinsuyu
– Architecture
– Astronomy
– Agriculture
– Language
– Musical demonstration

3. Wind instruments (pan pipes, flutes and bamboo instruments)
– How to make a pan pipe and a musical demonstration
– Musical demonstration

4. String instruments
– Charango (10-stringed instrument made of Armadillo shell)
– Musical demonstration

5. Fusing Western influences to the Andean sounds
– Introduction to modern Jazzfunk and RnB theory which sets up a complete new sound for a usually very traditional Andean music. This in turn gives a unique background allowing Mario to develop new melodic ideas.

6. Interactive musical finale

Celestino blends traditional sounds with world music to create a passionate and memorable performance. The ensemble incorporates traditional Bolivian panpipes, quenas (traditional flutes) and charango (traditional Bolivian string instrument), with keyboards, guitar, drums and Latin percussion. A five-piece ensemble of talented musicians, members of Celestino have performed throughout Australia, Pacific Islands, Europe, South Africa, South America and North America.

Booking includes a ticket to the Celestino Performance at 6pm the same evening.
