Curated by Noreen Grahame, this exhibition draws on Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery’s rich print holdings. The Gallery has been a member of the Print Council Australia for many years and has consistently collected its Commissioned Prints. TRAG’s collection also includes prints by artists who are graduates or lecturers of the University of Southern Queensland.

Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery has recently taken possession of an exceptionally significant work for the collection which is on display as part of this exhibition. Untitled—Blue - Brown by Normana Wight is one of five existing unique ‘modular paintings’ (screenprints on canvas) produced by her during the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. Wight was one of only three female artists included in the landmark 'The Field' exhibition of 1968 (NGV, AGNSW). This exhibition opened the new contemporary Gallery space at the then new National Gallery of Victoria. Untitled—Blue - Brown represents an important part of Australian art history. It also acknowledges the underrepresented contribution of female artists to Australian Modernism and early Post modernism.

Big Impressions will be on display from 18 June to 14 August 2016.

Big Impressions is being presented in association with the Year of Print, in celebration of the Print Council of Australia’s 50^th Anniversary.
