Darby McCarthy Race Day

The inaugural Darby McCarthy Race Day will pay tribute to Darby MCarthy who is recognised as one of the greatest ever Indigenous jockeys, winning Group 1 Races like the AJC Derby and Epsom Handicap as well as saluting in the Stradbroke Handicap on three occasions.

Darby was a trailblazer for Indigenous Jockeys, riding more than 1000 race winners in Australia, New Zealand and Europe.

Racing is Darby’s beloved sport and has long been a voice for his people, even setting up an apprentice school for Indigenous youths who wanted to become involved in the racing industry.

South West Indigenous Network Inc (SWIN) is a recognised multi-sport organisation which provides leadership, guidance and support to the Indigenous communities of South West and South East Queensland through opportunities in sport, physical activities and recreation.
