This Curator Conversation features Jennifer Wilson, Queensland Museum Senior Curator of Transport Energy and Science, presenting: Hustling Hinkler - The story of Bert Hinkler's 1928 flight from England to Australia.

On 7 February 1928, Queensland aviator Herbert ‘Bert’ Hinkler left Croydon aerodrome and arrived in Darwin 15 and a half days later, completing the first solo flight from England to Australia, and setting numerous flight records along the way. The speed with which he completed the journey, embarked on a tour of Australia and began planning his next flights earned him the nickname ‘Hustling Hinkler’. The aircraft, Hinkler’s Avro Avian, hangs on display in the foyer of Queensland Museum. Ninety years later, this and other objects in Queensland Museum’s collections offer an opportunity to reflect on the stories of Hinkler’s historic flight.
