Signaller Sean Patrick McCarthy enlisted into the Australian Defence Force on the 10th July 2001 after completing High School.

Sean was killed in a road side bomb attack in the Uruzgan Province on Tuesday 8 July 2008,  aged 25.

Sean was an ex member of the 7th Signal Regiment (EW) at Cabarlah, he owned a house and lived in Highfields and was very much a part of the local community. Sean's parents David and Mary are members of the Highfields RSL sub branch and David proudly marches wears his sons medals on Anzac Day.

Through a submission made by the Highfields RSL Sub Branch, Council in 2017 approved the renaming of Community Court in Highfields to Sean McCarthy Way. This was named Sean McCarthy Way because Sean used to say there was only two ways of doing things, " the wrong way or the Sean McCarthy Way".
