‘I had a fearful vision. I saw all the art in the world piled up in one mound and it was a mile high and fifty miles thick. Damned if I’m going to add my barrow to Apollo’s rubbish tip”’. So states the self-deluded protagonist of Rooms and Houses: An Autobiographical Novel (1968) by Norman Lindsay (1879-1969).
Norman and his brother Lionel Lindsay (1874-1961) worshipped the Greek god of art, Apollo. Despite the oath of Norman’s character, they added countless barrowfuls to ‘Apollo’s rubbish tip’. This exhibition heaps together examples of their art to form a microcosm of that mountainous pile.
Join us for a Twilight Tour on Thursday 15 February @ 5.30pm | This is a free event and all are welcome | RSVP to the gallery.
Exhibition on display from 27 January to 22 April 2018.
