Before the introduction of motion pictures, capturing motion and the movement of objects in a static medium was made possible by artists through the elements of design. The placement of objects, use of diagonal lines, direction, perspective, blurriness and repetition all show a sense of implied movement. Works on display are from the gallery’s collections and depict a sense of movement or allude to the feeling the movement is about to occur.
