The Toowoomba-based founder of the Lionel Lindsay Gallery and Library Collection, William (Bill) Bolton, was an Australian nationalist and ardent collector of Australiana. However, the artworks, books and maps he collected were not insular, relating only to Australia. Taking its title from an 1811 map in one of Bolton’s books that labelled Australia’s mainland as ‘Notasia’, this exhibition orients views of the Lindsay Collection from Australia to Asia and back again. Highlights include two 19th-century Japanese woodblock prints, which probably entered Bolton’s collection from Lionel Lindsay’s personal collection.

Exhibition on display from 28 April to 22 July 2018.
