“I started spending time watching the goldfish in the fishpond at the end of the veranda. I was attracted to how the nasturtium vine was growing across the water. Its new growth dipped beneath the surface and winded its way around the edge of the pond. The goldfish chased each other through the tangle of vines and hid beneath the leaves that floated on the surface. As I observed them play, I became fascinated with the three goldfish that were almost invisible until they rolled sideways. There was a flash of purple and silver as the sunlight hit their scales. I began painting small studies to capture these ‘invisible’ fish dancing through the vines…" Monica Usher, 2018.
Local artist Monica Usher has developed these studies, culminating in her latest exhibition The Invisible Fish. The works explore the watery depths of the pond, obscured by (yet viewed through) the veil of the nasturtium vine.
Join us and Monica Usher for the Opening & Artist Talk on Sunday 27 May @ 1.30pm.
This is a free event and all are welcome | RSVP to the Gallery.
