Ikebana, the disciplined, traditional art of Japanese flower arrangement, makes potent use of minimalism to emphasise shape, line and form. Ikebana arrangements reflect careful consideration and contemplation, particularly beyond the Western preoccupation with a flower’s bloom.
Practising artists often create in silence to establish an appreciation for the materials used and a spiritual connection to nature. Modern Ikebana arrangements continue to develop the aesthetic nature of the process, pushing the boundaries of the materials in bold and experimental ways.
Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery is proud to showcase its annual display by the Sogetsu School (Toowoomba’s Ikebana group), during the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers celebrations.
Displayed from 21 to 30 September 2018.
