The Easter Rising was an armed insurrection in Ireland during easter Week, 1916.

The Rising was mounted by Irish republicans to end British Rule in Ireland and establish an independent Irish Republic while the United Kingdom was heavily engaged in World War 1. It was the most significant uprising in Ireland since the rebellion of 1798.

Join members of the Darling Downs Irish Club as they commemorate the 1916 Easter Rising at 11.30am on the steps of the old General Post Office.

The proclamation will be read in Gaelic and there will be a presentation on the effects of the uprising.

Then enjoy the screening of the movie Michael Collins at the Irish  Club Hotel commencing at 2pm and also enjoy some rousing Rebel songs.
