The Crows Nest Regional Art Gallery warmly invites you to visit our new exhibition by the Craft Nest Sewing Club – Patterns & Places. This exhibition is comprised of quilts and cushions, work made as a club challenge to learn the style of foundation piecing. The quilt pattern used was from the Australian Patchwork & Quilting magazine and the cushion pattern was from a book titled New York Beauty & Flying Geese.

“The Craft Nest” Sewing Club was born in early 1997 when the need for the rural women from the district to have somewhere to meet and socialise and make friends in a different environment, when the district was in the grip of a wide spread drought. By the end of that year there were 21 ladies coming together to learn to sew, to do patchwork and generally enjoy the coming together of other women with similar interests. The same still applies 23 years later, and it has become a very active group with membership now over 45 women.  From founding members, ladies from the local district, to those who have come to reside in the town from many parts of the Australia and the world; it has created a club with different skills, values, stories and experiences.
