USQ third year Acting students perform Australian playwright Justin Fleming’s version of Moliere’s farceTartuffe, last seen at the Sydney Opera House produced by Bell Shakespeare. Get ready to laugh as Tartuffe toys with sex, religion and class war in a deliciously humorous and very Australian way. With a high camp 80s TV soap opera twist complete with shoulder pads, soft focus lenses and a cast of naughty vixens and brainless beefcake, this is France’s most famous playwright as you have never seen him revived before.
Directed by Matt Scholten
Jean Baptiste Poquelin (1622-1773), more famously known by his stage name, Molière is France’s most celebrated playwright. He rivals Shakespeare for his influence on the theatre in France as his work intellectually played with the Neoclassical rules of drama (mostly applied to tragedy) in order to satirise what he felt was odious behaviour in the middle classes.
