Spanish Flu killed 50 in Toowoomba

In 1918-1919 a Spanish flu pandemic, spread by soldiers returning from the Western Front, devastated the world’s population. More than 12,500 people died in Australia but just 50 in Toowoomba. Just how Toowoomba – Council, hospital, doctors, and nurses – limited the impact locally will be the subject of the next talk at the Toowoomba Historical Society. The speaker will be local history raconteur Peter Cullen, well-known for his historical anecdotes on ABC Radio. The talk will be held at the Society’s Rooms, 49 Lindsay St, Toowoomba on Monday, 15 July 2019 at 1.30pm. All welcome.
