Toowoomba Historical Society talk

Frank Pearson was one of the two bushrangers known as ‘Captain Starlight’ who spent time in Toowoomba’s gaol. Pearson used so many aliases and took on so many identities that his true name is unknown. A horse thief, armed robber, serial impostor, forger and pathological liar — his story is a real case of the truth being stranger than fiction. The next talk at the Toowoomba Historical Society will recount the story of his life, from his early bushranging in New South Wales to his spate of frauds in Queensland, his multiple incarcerations and his bizarre death in Western Australia. The speaker will be Jane Smith, a Toowoomba librarian and freelance editor, who has published a number of books on Australian bushrangers, three of which have been listed for literary awards. Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting at the Society’s Rooms, 49 Lindsay St, Toowoomba on Monday, 18 November at 7.30pm. Light refreshments will be served.
