Nesting Box Workshop
With the increasing residential development and the resultant removal of larger trees from both our urban and peri-urban areas, our native fauna are being rapidly displaced. As property owners who have larger trees, remove trees or parts of trees that are considered safety hazards, fewer nesting hollows are left for the native fauna that require them.
Examples of fauna that are being displaced include most of the local parrots, kookaburras, wood ducks, brush tailed possums, gliders, some owls, phascogales and microbats.
The workshop will provide participants with:
- a completed nesting box to be used either in private property or with permission in a public space.
- information to assist participants to place the nesting box in an appropriate location.
- an understanding of the criteria required by the various animals that use hollow logs and nesting boxes.
- a 71 page guide to building nesting boxes “Nest Boxes for Wildlife” by Alan and Stacey Franks from Hollow Log Homes.
- opportunity for other community organizations to take on nest box building activities for the broader community.
You will be required to bring a cordles drill with a philips screw driver bit.
