Filipino Australian artist Ben Tupas explores the concept of travel through his new video installation Greetings From Eurasia. In 2021, the artist discovered a collection of post-WWII era, shell-carved curios for sale in a Toowoomba antique store. Drawing directly from these objects, Tupas utilises techniques of video storytelling to invite the viewer to consider new understandings of travel - through a bicultural lens.
By selectively employing object, sound and light, the artist suggests a foreign landscape, stereotypical travel destinations and opposing characters such as the native/tourist, driver/passenger and seller/buyer. Through the work, Tupas explores broader themes such as colonialism, consumerism and migration.
Join us on Sunday 12 June @ 11am to meet Ben Tupas and learn more about his artistic practice, and come along to 'Greetings From' on Sunday 26 June @ 10:30am for a hands-on media-based workshop with Ben.
