There will always be flowers if you look: A group exhibition celebrating neurodiversity is about embracing our difference as a source of wonder and putting attention to what is often overlooked. It is our difference as people that brings us together and gives purposeful, rich experience in our environment. This exhibition promotes and celebrates this neurodiversity in our community.
The Toowoomba region is home to many individuals affected by disability and neurological differences that inhibit access to vocational opportunity, pursuing interests and other liberties afforded to residents without the same barriers. Greater understanding is changing public perceptions of neurodivergence to account for the complexity, advanced skills and insight of neurodivergent individuals and their value within the community.
Artist, teacher, support worker and co-ordinator of this exhibition, Fiona Cockfield, mentors aspiring artists living with disability. This exhibition is the culmination of three neurodivergent artists and their mentor exploring themes of acceptance, empathy, difference, nature, and belonging.
