If you dice up some Toowoomba and throw it in the pot with hearty helpings of Brisbane, Withcott, and Grantham you wouldn’t necessarily think about getting flavours of Old New Orleans Jazz, Early Blues, Ragtime with hints of Trad & Swing, but that’s exactly what you get with Beef Cheeks and the Salty Beans.
David Kume – Vocals and Resonator Guitar
Dave has made a name for himself fronting Slips and the FW’s who are a staple in the Brisbane jazz and blues scene. Dave has impressed audiences at the Blues on Broadbeach festival, Brisbane Jazz Club, Gold Coast Jazz and Blues, The Jumpers in Jazz festival among many others as well as regularly featuring at Eat Street Northshore. His voice and playing truly evokes the early 1900’s and takes an audience straight to New Orleans.
Paul Edwards – Clarinet and Tenor Saxophone
Paul Edwards is also a member of Slips and the FW’s along with various jazz groups including Blue on Green and Warm for July. Paul’s playing has been impressing audiences across Queensland for decades and his reputation as a teacher who produces the best young saxophone talent is unmatched in our region.
Roberto Fontana – Trumpet
Born in the heart of Italy, Roberto is a passionate trumpet player well versed in jazz, pop, Latin and electronic music. Heavily influenced by Chet Baker, Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie Roberto has relentlessly pursued his own sound that he has taken around the world.
Zoe Atkinson – Trombone
Zoe is a Brisbane based trombonist and JMI alumni, keeping the traditions of early jazz alive with her vibrant performances. Whether on trombone or sousaphone, she brings the lively charm of the golden jazz era to audiences capturing the heart of classic hot jazz and swing.
Mark Chalmers – Double Bass
Rounding out the band in the bottom end, double bass duties will be handled by well known local musician Mark Chalmers. Mark is no stranger to the jazz club stage and audiences know they will get solid grooves throughout the night………..and maybe the odd bass solo!
The Beef Cheeks and the Salty Beans are ready to deliver a hot end to Summer and then prepare for hibernation over the Winter by eating and musicing their way through the Autumn.
