"Rhythm Plus+ Special Edition”

We are pleased to present this special version of “Rhythm Plus+”, featuring bassist John Conley and guitarist Dave Burrows.

Band leader Paul Hendon is enjoying pursuing his jazz career since retiring from his day job as an electronics engineer last year. He has performed in the Newcastle and Noosa Jazz Festivals, the 78th Australian Jazz Convention in Mildura, and most recently in the Port Fairy Jazz Festival, where he and Hannah were enthusiastically received with an interstate (6-piece band) version of “Rhythm Plus”, resulting in invitations to the Adelaide Jazz Club and the South Coast Jazz Festival in Goolwa, SA.

The band has been on a mission to eke out some less common songs to add to their repertoire. There are many beautiful tunes and lyrics that don’t get the exposure they deserve. We look forward to delighting audiences with the likes of “Small Fry”, “You Can’t Lose a Broken Heart” and others, along  with some more well-known swing standards.

We are delighted to welcome back John Conley (of Galapagos Duck fame) to our club. John is a most accomplished bassist who last appeared here with one of Paul’s other groups ("Rythme Mélodique”) last year. His smooth bass lines, innovative solos, and easy-going nature always make him a pleasure to have on the bandstand.

We also gladly welcome back guitarist Dave Burrows from the Sunshine Coast. Dave has made the trek down occasionally over the years as part of Paul’s “Goodman” sextet, and we are very grateful to have him join us on this occasion. As a busy luthier in his spare time, we never know which instrument Dave will be playing!

Hannah Groves is going from strength to strength. She is embracing the experience of performing with different musicians at the 77th Australian Jazz Convention in Longford (Dec 2023) and in Port Fairy just recently, and her confidence and relaxed style continue to develop.

With a busy year planned ahead for Paul (including Canberra Jazz Club and a week-long tour with his Goodman Sextet with vibes player Glenn Henrich from Sydney in July, along with several performances for the Noosa Jazz Club in Pomona), this will be a rare chance to catch Paul playing in his home town, so line up some friends and book a table to enjoy this special edition of “Rhythm Plus+”.

PARKING: Access the car park off Gipps Street or there are parks in front of the bowling green in Ball Street and access via the gate.
ENTRANCE: Up the steps from the car park on the southern side of the building or from the bowling green side. Disabled access ramp on the Western side (Gipps Street) and through the bar.
