Learn how to make your own soft toy with local artist and maker, Rhi Johnson.  This introductory workshop shares design, printing and sewing techniques to make your own take-home creation.

Using a selection of pre-cut stencils, participants will screen print their own fabric as the toy foundation. Different methods of embellishment such as embroidery techniques and appliqué, will be shared to create your own designs. Finally, you'll how to sew your toy together, turn it, stuff it and close the seam to create your finished piece.

When: 
Wednesday, 11th April, 9am -11am. 

Cost:
2 hour session: $45 pp.
This includes materials and a take home creation. 

Bring Your Own:
1 x apron or clothes that can get messy. All fabrics, paints and tools are supplied, but you are more than welcome to bring your own.

Who:
Only 10 places are available for participants aged 8 years+.

About the Artist: 
Dr. Rhi Johnson is an artist from Toowoomba, Queensland who is interested in the representation of everyday narratives, and the ways in which they are punctuated or subverted.  Rhi works primarily in the fields of printmaking and artists’ books. 

In addition to her role as a practicing artist and lecturer in these areas, Rhi is interested in facilitating creative outcomes for makers of all ages.  After becoming a mother herself, Rhi started sewing toys and clothes for children, often involving her children in the creative process.  She is particularly interested in a mixed media approach, combining elements of printmaking and sewing to explore alternative methods of composition and design.
