Queensland's new proposed planning reforms could have a big impact on the Darling Downs Region.

Without strong planning laws that protect our environment and provide for community participation in decision making, poor planning decisions could lead to large developments next to sensitive protected nature areas with very little public consultation time.

They could also lead to more unit developments in historic and leafy suburbs through code assessment processes which may not be required to comply with any assessment benchmarks nor undertake public notification.

Developers could even choose who assesses their application, regardless of any conflict of interest the assessment manager might have in deciding the application.
