5 country gardens will be on display for visitors to explore on Saturday November 12 and Sunday November 13. Visitors can enter all 5 gardens for $20 - children are free (under 18 years old). Payment needs to be made at the Greenmount Hall where you will receive an entrance arm band and a map showing the location of the gardens. You will also be able to buy morning tea and a picnic lunch at the hall.

As well as viewing the gardens, be sure to take a stroll around our village and admire the various historical buildings. A replica of the shingle hut which was the boyhood home of author Steel Rudd is located a short distance out of Greenmount. This remarkable writer created the famous rustic characters of Dad and Dave whose stories were first published in The Bulletin in 1899. To learn about the life of this remarkable writer drive along the New England Highway until you reach East Greenmount, turn east directly opposite Emu Creek School, and continue up the Greenmount Budgee Road for 2km.  

Proceeds of the event are in aid of RACQ Life Flight Rescue.

A peak into the gardens of Greenmount

Garden 1 - Cathy & Allan Stenzel

Eye catching hedges of hibiscus, golden duranta and geisha girl are all planted as wind breaks and dividers around this sprawling garden.  Large trees such as paper bark melaleucas, golden rains, flowering ashes, silky oaks, tipuanas, crepe myrtles and jacarandas have been planted over the years to create protection for the shade loving liriopes and clivias.

Garden 2 - Yvonne & Don Munchow

A town garden with lovely views down across the valley.  There are combinations of shrubs and perennials with shade trees creating a delightful atmosphere.  As you move to the back garden numerous roses come into view and as a background there is a planting of espalier fruit trees and healthy citrus.

Garden 3 - Sharon & Greg Harms

Established in 2001 ‘Oakmore Park’ has expanded from the original plantings of conifers and hedges, for a formal touch, to beyond the original house fence.  Many plants ended as dried arrangements until Sharon learned the difference between frost tolerant and frost hardy.  The planting of flowers is limited with colour being enjoyed through leaf at autumn and throughout the year.

Garden 4 - Monica James & Dave Edwards

This is a real homestead garden right on the edge of Greenmount.  The area is large and sprawling, filled with natives and western type trees.  You could easily feel you have arrived in central Queensland, and to top it all off Dave is a Quilpie boy and was Mayor for many years, and loves a yarn.

Garden 5 - Theresa & Ross Stolz

Sections containing perennials such as salvias, lavender and roses supported by some annuals have been added to over the years.  A rose clad gazebo overlooking the wisteria arch leads to the oval garden, an area of raised beds with a prunus nigra at its centre and surrounded by hedges and flanked by alternating flowering plums and crab apples.
