The transformation of clay and silica to ceramics is a fascinating process. The material in the hands of the potter starts as something that is plastic and pliable. Through a process of shaping, drying and firing, where it is subjected to intense heat, it becomes something that is solid yet brittle; which can no longer return to its original organic form.

This exhibition features pieces that use different clay bodies and a variety of surface decoration and finish to provide a snapshot of a range of approaches to the creation of vessels using clay.
