In this workshop we shall work on four book structures and discuss possible variations, demonstrating the versatility of the book as a container of text or as a sculptural object. Participants will be encouraged to develop a theme and create their own individual projects. The book structures are versatile, and all lend themselves to a wide variety of sizes and interpretations for journals, artists’ books, drawing books, sculptures etc. with soft or hard covers. Book structures will include folded structures, sculptural concertinas, a Coptic bound journal (feral or plain), a compound, hinged page binding (butterfly book), a book sewn on tapes.
