“Paul Hendon’s Goodman Sextet” presents a tribute to the famous “King of Swing”, Benny Goodman.

Hosted by the USQ Academic Services Division.

Goodman’s original small group blended the unique combination of clarinet and vibes (Lionel Hampton), along with the renowned rhythm section of Teddy Wilson (piano) and Gene Krupa (drums). Breaking ground in many ways, Goodman was also one of the first to introduce the electric guitar (Charlie Christian) in his racially integrated band.

We are proud to present this faithful reproduction of Goodman’s instrumentation, featuring some of Queensland’s finest jazz musicians in the idiom, along with special guest Sydney vibraphonist, Glenn Henrich.

This style of jazz is melodic, rhythmic, and as inspiring today as it was in the 1930s and 1940s when it evolved. Our interpretation of many original arrangements is guaranteed to get your toes tapping!
