Fairies, magical puddings, koalas in suits and witches riding bats take over the Small Lindsay Gallery in Fairy Lines & Nursery Rhymes, an exhibition showcasing the Gallery’s holdings of illustrated children’s literature from 1880 to 1940. From the medieval Queen of Hearts and the knave who stole her tarts to the laundry maid who has her nose picked off by a blackbird, there are plenty of fanciful stories to delight the imagination.

The books are paired with an assortment of artworks including whimsical bookplates and original drawings which give a closer look at children’s literature during this period. Visitors both big and little can embark on a visual treasure hunt to seek out fascinating details in these fantastically illustrated worlds.  

Don’t forget to create your own fantastical story by playing Word Soup before you leave!
