Celebrate Harmony Day in the City - a day to acknowledge and appreciate diversity within our community. Activities will run from 11am - 2pm today in the Civic Square - highlights include a performance by the Wuquiao acrobatic troupe from China and Taiko Drumming.
The program of events is as below:
- 11am Official Welcome by MC Dave Gall
- 11.05am Aboriginal acknowledgement (inlcuding smoking ceremony, Dragon Fly dance and Digeridoo)
- 11.20am Goodwill Committee prayers
- 11.25am Harlaxton State School singers
- 11.30am Town crier - Kevin Howarth
- 11.35am Welcome address by Cr Geoff McDonald
- 11.40am Youth speaker - Rahila Abdul Hadi (Yr 12 Student from Afghanistan - her journey)
- 11.50am Tai Chi Fu Chen Performance – U3A
- 11.54am Britannia Pugh - singer
- 12pm Taiko Drumming
- 12.10pm Wuqiao Acrobatics World
- 12.20pm Filipino Dance - Bionoyugan and Tinikling by Association for Cultural and Social Harmony (ACASH) Association for Cultural and Social Harmony
- 12.30pm Centenary Heights Performance (NazGul/Afgahnistan dance, Kaniushq-Bollywood Dance, 'Sakura’ Song - traditional Japanese folk song by 3 international students)
- 12.40pm Women in Harmony Choir
- 12.50pm Tai Chi Fu Chen Performance – Fan Dance by Lucy white
- 12.54pm Indian Dance
- 1.05pm Wuqio Acrobatic world
- 1.15pm Toowomba Thai Association
- 1.20pm Yazidi’s Performance - instrumental (Ayad Kakae) and Kurdish community dancing
Come along and join the celebration and enjoy a free BBQ (courtesy of East Creek Community Centre through TOMNET) and multicultural food from Pure Land Learning College (vegetarian). All most welcome.
