JEWELLS ON THE MOVE

The Toowoomba-based Jewell family has been moving furniture for more than a century across five generations.
The business has grown from a single horse-and-cart to a fleet of 25 trucks, pantechnicons, semitrailers, and road trains, ranging from model-T Fords to the latest Volvo.
Its success is intertwined with the development of Toowoomba (and Qld) through wars and depression, the challenges of road-making, the need for technological innovation, and the stress of Covid lock-downs.
The story of the firm will be the subject of the next talk at the Toowoomba Historical Society by Society member Margaret Deacon, author of the new book, Jewell of The Downs: On The Move Since 1898.
The talk will be at the Society's Rooms, 49 Lindsay St, Toowoomba on Monday, 17 October at 1.30pm.
