Formed in 1977, the Caxton Street Jazz Band takes its name from the famous hotel where the band had an eleven year stint. The group is recognised locally and internationally as one of Australia’s leading jazz bands

Over their 40 years, members have changed a number of times but four of the six current musicians have been with the group since 2001 giving the combo the reputation of being ‘tight and hot’.

While the band’s roots are in the music of the early twentieth century, many other influences are represented in its output. These include big band swing, mainstream jazz, folk, country, rhythm and blues as well as popular tunes of the 30s, 40s and 50s. The band sets out to give their music a soft new edge that appeals to modern audiences.

Personnel include John Braben (trumpet), Paul Williams (clarinet and tenor sax), Tom Nicholson (trombone, banjo, vocals), Bernice Haydock (piano and vocals), Andrew Shaw (double bass) and Dave McCallum (drums). This is an impressive mix of talented musicians whose timing and rapport with each other is impeccable.

Their Toowoomba performance will be on Friday 14^th JULY from 7:45 to 11:00pm at the North Toowoomba Bowls Club. Meals are available from 6:00 to 7:15pm.

Door prices are $20 for visitors and $15 for Jazz Society members. Group concessions apply.
