Kick-off National Unity Week (October 20 -27) this Saturday by joining over 500 Toowoomba residents walking together at 11am to promote and encourage a welcoming, fair and compassionate society for the thousands of people who come from overseas each year to call Australia home.
Walk Together is an annual event to celebrate our nation’s diversity and it is taking place in all major cities and regional centres across Australia. Over 500 community members are expected to converge on Toowoomba’s Civic Square at 11am to make a loud declaration of ’Welcome’.
Presented by MDA Ltd (Multicultural Development Australia), Walk Together is a free community event. Toowoomba West and Highfields Lions Clubs will host a free sausage sizzle.
MDA CEO Kerrin Benson says that Walk Together reflects Toowoomba’s commitment to being a refugee welcome zone.
“The Toowoomba region is home to people from over 200 distinct cultural backgrounds and Walk Together celebrates this diversity and embraces the vibrancy and rich diversity of our city,” Kerrin says.
After the walk people are invited to return to the Civic Square for a free concert. Small Town Culture musician Josh Arnold will be joined by eight schools featuring students from the ‘My Story’ Music Video Series; original songs and videos performed by Toowoomba students to embrace and respect our differences.
