Formed in mid 2015, Sassafras has now established a reputation as one of Perth’s premier gypsy jazz groups. Perhaps best known for their work with the quintet version of the band ("Sassafras" - featuring vocalist Jessie Gordon), the four instrumentalists have also been steadily developing their sound as a tight-knit and energetic instrumental group: Sassafras Quartet. 
The quartet repertoire features gypsy jazz classics from Django Reinhardt alongside music from modern masters such as Biréli Lagrène, Gonzalo Bergara, Les Doigts De L'Homme and others. The band also has varied selection of original arrangements of classic and lesser-known jazz standards, as well as some original works - all with a progressive leaning. Sassafras has sold out numerous gigs at venues such as the Ellington Jazz Club, Jazz Fremantle, Kidogo Arthouse, The Paddlesteamer Decoy, Juniper Studio and Lazy Susan’s Comedy Den, and the band has presented a show ('An Evening in Paris') as part of the Perth Fringeworld Festival for three years running (2016-2018), to sold out houses and great acclaim. Sassafras also featured as part of the 2017 Perth International Jazz Festival and the 2018 Corner Pocket Festival. The band line up will be Adrian Galante - Clarinet, Lachlan Gear - Acoustic Guitar, Aaron Deacon - Acoustic Guitar and Pete Jeavons - Doublebass 

Sassafras Quartet combines toe-tapping swing, breakneck gypsy jazz and re-worked jazz standards in a vibrant and engaging mix of acoustic music, all performed with the dazzling virtuosity and passion that is intrinsic to the gypsy jazz tradition. 

Admission is $20 for visitors and $15 for members. Refreshments are provided and there is a raffle.
Meals are available from 6:00 to 7:15pm for $15 for two courses.
The gig begins at 7:45pm.
