Capture the flow of fabric

Fashion illustration is more than just drawing clothes onto a figure – it needs to “sell” the outfit. Drawing on her experience within fashion industry, Penelope will explain why and how fashion illustration needs to be emotive, expressive and represent an authentic and relatable ideal which resonates with the target audience.

Participants will learn how to add character and “life” to their fashion figures by exploring movement and careful silhouette shapes. Penelope will also discuss and show examples of different fashion illustrator styles and techniques and share some insight as to how these illustrators have built their name within the fashion illustration world.

In a hands on demonstration, Penelope will demonstrate a variety of different rendering techniques and explain the benefits of each rendering medium to achieve sheer fabrics, shiny fabrics, feathers, furs, knits, patterns and prints, embellishment and embroidered details. Participants will be given different rendering exercises to trial and explore.

Penelope will also give a live fashion illustration demonstration creating a fashion illustration from scratch. Participants will then draw their own finished fashion illustration with her guidance.
