Council will celebrate International Day of People with a Disability (IDPwD) on 3 December 2016. Keep an eye on prominent buildings within the region, lit up in blue and orange to raise awareness. Orange and blue are the colours of IDPwD and represent the two ‘pillars’ of our approach.
- The colour blue is strongly associated with equality and accessibility, and symbolises encouraging support for the dignity, rights and well-being of people with disability.
- The orange — often used to signify harmony and diversity — reminds us of the benefits of the integration of people with disability in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
Together, they remind us to strive for a community culture that’s based on human rights and inclusiveness, which will enrich all our lives.
