Learn the fun and creative skills of printmaking with USQ lecturer and artist Stephen Spurrier. A perfect class for beginners and intermediate.

In this one-day workshop, you will get a taste for printmaking as well as having the opportunity to see what is on offer in the USQ printmaking studio. Work with Stephen, the USQ printmaking master, to explore a range of simple methods to create stunning images on paper to take home. You will also learn the basics of intaglio printing and various screen-printing techniques.

Stephen Spurrier is the USQ Associate Lecturer of Printmaking and has a Masters of Fine Art (RMIT, 1994), Fellowship Diploma (RMIT, 1970), Associate Diploma (RMIT, 1967).

Stephen’s work is in state galleries and in many other public collections including Parliament House in Canberra, Artbank and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Stephen was awarded the Hutchins Prize in 2000 for the Artist’s Book The Book of First Aid and How Not to Use It and received an Australia Council Development Grant of a Studio residency in Barcelona for 2002. He has recently completed a series of editioned Artists’ Books The Barcelona Diaries based on this experience one of which is in the collection at Artspace Mackay.

Stephen has been exhibiting since 1966 and has held over 30 solo exhibitions including In Love with the Pencil at U.W.A. (as part of his Artist in Residence experience at U.W.A. and Curtin University) 2000, and Wishing to Fly at Grahame Galleries and Editions, Brisbane 1999. Stephen’s collaborations range from his exhibitions of collaborative artists books –Little Treasures at RMIT Gallery in Melbourne (2001) and Grahame Galleries, Brisbane (2002) and at UWE, Bristol, UK (October 2004) to co-curating projects such the Gallery Artomat vending machine projects for the Melbourne Art Fair with Wilma Tabacco (1992,1994,1996,1998) and The Cask – an Aussie Icon exhibition with George Matoulas (1998, 1999) to coordinating The Stamp Collection artists’ books project with Ron McBurnie, (ongoing since 1998).
