To:Friday 17 January 2025
Time:8:30am - 04:00pm Monday 13 January 2025
Location:University of Southern Queensland, Q501/502 USQ West Street, Toowoomba, Qld 4350 Australia

This class will explore different ways of creating textured metal surfaces for jewellery making and small objects. It is anticipated that students gain a variety of skills such as low-tech casting and sheet metal texturing processes including etching and roller printing using etched brass plates.  They will emerge from the course with a collection of textured and cast metal material that they can use in their studio practices. Techniques include etching copper/brass with ferric chloride, roller printing using etched plates, cuttlefish sheet casting to create usable sheets of textured silver, and delft clay casting to create low relief textures and shapes transferred from natural and found objects.  Creativity is encouraged in experimenting and fusing the different techniques that we learn.   While there will be provision to create finished items of jewellery if you have some fabrication skills, the focus will be on experimentation to build up textures, create 3 dimensional objects and gain experience and confidence with these techniques.

THIS WORKSHOP INCLUDES CUTTLEFISH – DO NOT REGISTER IF YOU HAVE AN ALLERGY TO CUTTLEFISH
