An inspiring performance featuring Dvořák’s famed Serenade for Strings and Australian guitar virtuoso Karin Schaupp as special guest.

Featuring Australian guitar virtuoso, Karin Schaupp, “one of the world’s most accomplished classically trained guitarists” (Sydney Morning Herald) this performance showcases two exquisite pieces of music for guitar and strings.

Mendelssohn’s Songs Without Words, usually for solo piano, will be performed here in a delightful new arrangement for guitar and strings. You’ll hear some of Mendelssohn’s most favourite tunes in this lyrical music, imbued with feeling – music in its most pure and simple form.

Carl Vine’s Endless refers to the ‘Endless Knot’ in Tibetan Buddhism that sees life and death as interconnected, in this case taking the sadness of a mother’s loss and creating out of it an atmosphere of hope. You’ll hear reflective melodies and hints of salsa dancing in tribute to Jennifer Bates whom the work was commissioned to commemorate.

Dvořák’s radiant and joyous Serenade for Strings will be sprinkled throughout the program, interspersing the moments of solace with inspiration from this sunny, sparkling serenade.

Camerata & Karin Schaupp: Serenade will also feature Camerata’s loved Wild Card Mystery Segment, all without a conductor in sight.

Presented by Camerata.
