Council's Sister City of Takatsuki, Japan is presenting Taiko drums as a gift to the Toowoomba region to highlight the longstanding relationship between Takatsuki and the Toowoomba region.  This generous gift will provide Toowoomba residents with increased opportunities to participate in Japanese cultural activities, and the drums will be made available for use by the Toowoomba Taiko Group.

Takatsuki has invited members of the Toowoomba Taiko Group and Toowoomba Regional Council to travel to Japan to attend a traditional drumming festival in Takatsuki on 4 March 2018. The two Council representatives and six Takatsuki delegates will be returning on 6 March 2018.

On 7 March 2018, at 12:30pm a Mayoral Reception will be held in the Empire Theatre Church, 54 Neil Street, Toowoomba to thank Takatsuki for the generous donation. The reception will include a performance by the Takatsuki Daiko representatives as well as the Toowoomba Taiko Group. Members of the public are welcome.
