About the film
Loosely based on the life of Karen Blixen, this film is an epic romance set amongst the glorious African landscape. It is the film that cemented Meryl Streep’s status as a Hollywood Superstar, with one critic describing her performance as ‘the highest level of acting in film today.’

Bosting seven academy awards, including Best Picture, the film plays out in 20th-century colonial Kenya, where a Danish baroness, trapped in a marriage of convenience, has a passionate love affair with a big-game hunter.

Trivia bite: Meryl Streep wasn’t the first pick to play the lead role of Karen Blixen, the roll was originally offered to Audrey Hepburn as the director didn’t think Streep was ‘sexy’ enough.
