DownsSteam Tourist Railway & Museum's "SUPER SATURDAY" is officially launching on the 25th of May 2019 at 9am and will running every 4th Saturday of the month (except December).

Site admission is super budget friendly as a folded note donation made in the Railway Cream Shed 'Wishing Well'. Additional donations are always welcomed and are greatly appreciated!

Come and see the restoration of Toowooomba's very own steam locomotive the “Pride of Toowoomba”! Built in 1915 at the Toowoomba Foundry & Rollingstock Company as C16 class locomotive #106 for Queensland Rail. After a little more than a century and well over a million miles steaming her way around Queensland, this once proud steam engine is the now the only one of her 126 strong class not to meet the scrappers torch. C16-106 has found her way back home and into the hands of our dedicated team of volunteer craftsmen who are meticulously restoring her back to a fully operational condition for mainline tours across the Darling Downs under our 'Great Divide Scenic Railway' banner.

Take a ride into the past on a former Queensland Rail Section Car as used by track maintenance gangs. Operating hours are 9:30am - 2:30pm. Tickets $2 per person, rides take around 8 minutes. Rides are conducted in the Drayton West Precinct only and may not available in the event of inclement weather.

Get all steamed up with our vintage steam traction engines! Our Robey and Co. 3hp portable engine is over 100 years old and still runs our water pump display like clockwork. While our Spencer Works 1/3 scale replica steam traction engine was a 15 year labour of love by the late Damian Strohfeld and is proudly operated by our volunteers in his honour.

Explore our family friendly precinct on a free tour with one of our knowledgeable volunteer tour guides on the hour; learn more about the history of DownsSteam, our current rollingstock restoration work and exciting upcoming rail tours. Discover the unique Dreamtime Carriage art exhibit by the talented Aboriginal/Italian artist "Dom", and be fully immersed in your living colour journey through a day in the dreamtime.

Why not take a moment to sit back and relax with barista made coffee and light snacks in the "Macrossan" Lounge formally one of two premium Queenslander lounge cars as rostered on the Queenslander and Sunlander services, or chill out in the "Tropics Club Car" formerly the club car rostered on the "Spirit of the Tropics" and "Sunlander" services. Or why not sit down for a light lunch in our 'Darling Downs Finest" dining car converted onsite by our volunteer craftsmen from a former Brisbane Suburban coach.

Enjoy live music by a local artist on the Drayton Platform. Musician(s) may vary depending on availability. Some of our previous artists include: Oliver Murphy (young violinist), Toowoomba Violin Group & John Colville (Scottish entertainer).

Marvel at our former Tasmanian DP class railmotor as our skilled volunteers close in on the completion of restoration work to raise it from the ashes of an arson attack. When completed, the “Gatsby Flyer’s” tastefully decorated art deco inspired interior will provide nostalgic fun on short mainline tours across the Darling Downs under our 'Great Divide Scenic Railway' banner.

Visit our Station Shop conveniently located on the Drayton Platform for all of your DownsSteam, Dreamtime Journey Coach and train memorabilia for all ages. EFTPOS available (no cash out).

If you have any questions please phone the Station office on 0746302358 (Tuesday & Thursday 9am - 3pm) or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
