Using locally sourced branches, sticks and slabs, participants will craft a functional and stylish chair to take home. We will cover the selection and preparation of suitable stock. Although there are many design options, it is planned to include armrests on the chair for strength and comfort. There will be time to carve or texture the seat. The aim is to primarily use hand tools, traditional ones like shaving horse, drawknife and spokeshave. The finish from these will imbue your piece with character and originality. The joinery technique we will use is round mortice and tenon. Once mastered you will take away a useful skill that opens further possibilities later at home.
